LAVINA M. "NINA" PARKER

OCNS - May 1, 2003 - Longtime resident of Hominy, Oklahoma, Lavina M. Parker, 67, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2003 in the St. John Medical Center, Tulsa.

Ms. Parker was born August 17, 1935 in Winnebago, Nebraska, the daughter of George and Mary (Grant) Parker.   At the age of ten, Nina came to Hominy with her mother to visit relatives and ended up living there the rest of her life.   She received her education in the Hominy Public Schools, the Eufaula Indian School and Haskell Indian School.   Nina was a Full Blood member of the Omaha Tribe of Indians and was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Hominy.   She will be remembered for her wonderful laughter and amazing ability to make friends with people from all walks of life.   She will be dearly missed.

Survivors are:   Her sister, Carole Logan of Hominy; nieces and nephews, Roman Hutchens, Alecia Logan, Lisa Lovejoy, Leandra Grant Guevara and Lionel Lovejoy; a special young man, Timothy Goodfox, whom Nina helped raise and who affectionately called her "Grandma"; numerous cousins and other family and friends.   She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.

Nina will lie in state at the home of Carole Logan, 424 Logan Road, Hominy, until service time.   Traditional Indian service will be at 9:00 a.m., Monday, May 5, at the home.   Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday at the Assembly of God Church in Hominy with interment in the A.J. Powell Memorial Cemetery, Hominy.

BERTHA (STEVESON) (HARRIMAN) OLSON

OCNS - May 1, 2003 - Bertha Olson, 90, of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2003 in the Jane Phillips Medical Center, Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

Bertha Steveson was born December 23, 1912 in Hulbert, Oklahoma the daughter of Benjamin Hardy and Nannie Elizabeth (Terry) Steveson.   She was married to Kenneth Harriman, who preceded her in death in 1963 and in 1973, she married Thomas O. Olson who preceded her in death July 22, 1993.   A retired nurse, Mrs. Olson was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Pawhuska and the Heeko Club.   She was also an avid bridge player.

Survivors include:   Her sister, Mrs. Kenneth (Lois) Carnagey of Pawhuska; nieces and nephews, Bob Carnagey and wife, Kelly, of Hominy, Oklahoma, Susan (Carnagey) Woodward and husband, Bob, of Tulsa, Leon Steveson and wife, Joyce, Boyd Steveson and wife, Nancy and Jim Carnagey and wife, Ruth, all of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma; a step-son, Tommy Olson and wife, Martha Sue, of Bartlesville; her faithful caregivers, Maxine Brown, Mabel Miles and Nadine Newton all of Pawhuska; numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.   She was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 3, 2003 in the First Presbyterian Church of Pawhuska with Reverend Judy Henderson officiating.   Interment will be in the A.J. Powell Memorial Cemetery at Hominy, Oklahoma.

HOLLIS HUBERT GENN

OCNS - May 1, 2003 - Hollis Hubert Genn, 71, passed away Saturday, April 26, 2003 in the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Claremore, Oklahoma.

Mr. Genn was born May 23, 1931l in Hinton, Oklahoma, the son of Toy and Lydia (Shepperd) Genn.   November 22, 1972, he married the former Loretta Enyart in Pawhuska, Oklahoma.   Mr. Genn served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the American Legion and the American Association of Retired Persons.

Surviving are:   His wife, Loretta Genn of Claremore; his children, Marla Myers, Ninetta Harwick, Doris Williams, Zack Genn, Zeb Genn, Zeke Genn, Zelma Sullivan and Zalla Noland; his brothers and sisters, Clyde Genn, Oleta Anderson, Clayton Genn, Dolphus Genn, Leona Teeter and Gwenda Bishop; eleven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.   Mr. Genn was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings, Carl Genn and Arlanda Genn.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, April 29, 2003 in the Pawhuska City Cemetery with Reverend Dennis Ritchie officiating.

SHELBY DEAN OWENS

OCNS - April 28, 2003 - Shelby Dean Owens, 68, longtime resident of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, passed away Saturday, April 26, 2003 in the Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

Mr. Owens was born January 15, 1935 near Webb City, Oklahoma, the son of Travis and Euna (Snyder) Owens.   On June 20, 1960 in Pawhuska, he married Betty Ann Cole who preceded him in death March 13, 1989.   A truck driver by trade, Mr. Owens was a very diligent and hard-working man and was a member of the Church of God Seventh Day in Blackwell, Oklahoma.

Survivors include:   His children, Kathy Cass of Pawhuska, Matthew Owens of Ponca City, Oklahoma and Shelly Matney of Alpena, Michigan; two sisters, Imogene Widener and Frances Johnston both of Ponca City; his mother-in-law, Martha Winsell, of Pawhuska; his brothers-in-law, Harold Cole and wife, Toni, John Cole and wife, Patricia, Jackie Cole and wife, Mary Ann, Howard Cole, Wayne Cole and J.D. Cole; his sisters-in-law, Shirley Woolman and husband, Jack, Rosalie Forrest and husband, Charlie; seven grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 30, in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Mark Buchanan officiating.   Interment will be in the Pawhuska City Cemetery.

BESSIE MAE (COLLINS) (SWIFT) BURTON

OCNS - April 24, 2003 - Mrs. Bessie Mae (Collins) (Swift) Burton, 93, widow of William Andrew "Andy" Burton died at 5:05 p.m., Tuesday, April 22, 2003 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

Graveside services were held Friday, April 25, 2003 in the Ethel Reece Cemetery, Barnsdall, Oklahoma with the Reverend M.E. Anthony, Jr., officiating.   Committal prayers and interment were directed by The Arnold Moore-Barnsdall Funeral Home.

Bessie Mae Collins was born March 14, 1910 in West Plains, Missouri, the daughter of Jefferson and Nancy Elizabeth (Raby) Collins and during her youth, came to Bigheart (now Barnsdall), Oklahoma where she was reared and received her education.   She and Huskal Dean "Huck" Swift were married in 1929 in Tulsa, Oklahoma and made their home in Barnsdall.   Mr. Swift was an employee of Frank Phillips and was a cattle foreman.   When Woolaroc was founded, Mr. Swift continued his association with Mr. Phillips.   He retired in 1974 and passed away December 10, 1975 in Bartlesville.   Mrs. Swift and William Andrew "Andy" Burton were married June 7, 1965 (sic) at Pawhuska, Oklahoma and made their home in Barnsdall.   Mr. Burton preceded her in death June 29, 1996 in Barnsdall where Mrs. Burton continued to live in retirement.   She was a member of the Barnsdall, Free Will Baptist Church and attended the House of Prayer.

Survivors include:   Two daughters, Mrs. Imadean Barrett of Arlington, Texas, and Ms Peggy Swift of Barnsdall; four sons, Jimmy Arthur Swift and wife, Ella, Jack Wesley Swift and wife, Janice, Lloyd Eugene Swift and wife, Judy, and Eddie Lee Swift and wife, Alice, all of Barnsdall; eighteen grandchildren; forty-six great grandchildren and twenty-seven great great-grandchildren;   In addition to her husband, Mrs. Burton was preceded in death by four daughters, Mrs. Betty Henshall, Mrs. Margie Reeb, Mrs. Maxine Long and Mrs. Carol Parker; four grandchildren; a great grandchild; a brother, Ira Collins and two sisters, Mrs. Lavada Allison and Mrs. Stella Jane Herrin.

WIILLIAM HOWARD TAFT "HOOT" GIBSON

OCNS - April 21, 2003 - William Howard Taft "Hoot" Gibson, 91, a lifelong resident of Pawhuska, Oklahoma passed away Friday, April 18, 2003 in the Pawhuska Nursing Home.

Hoot was born March 30, 1912 in Pawhuska, the son of Luther A. and Lena Mae (Dawson) Gibson and on September 3, 1940, in Pawhuska, he and Edith Margaret Eveland were married.

Hoot served during World War II in the United States Army and on May 17, 1945 received the Award of the Purple Heart for wounds received in action on March 3, 1945 while serving in Germany with Company B, 28th Infantry Regiment during the Battle of the Bulge.   He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the First Christian Church.   Hoot also volunteered his time for the Sheriff's Association and Meals on Wheels.

Survivors include:   His wife, Edith Gibson of the home; his children, Richard Gibson and wife, Connie, of Pawhuska, John Gibson and wife, Cathy of Claremore, Oklahoma, Linda Fuller and husband, Bob, and Dorothy Morse and husband, Larry, all of Glenpool, Oklahoma; three sisters, Ruth Andrews of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Goldie Crume of Barnsdall, Oklahoma and Gladys Scott of Tulsa; one brother, Cecil Gibson of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Hoot was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Ann Gibson; a sister, Florence Malaske and two brothers, Carl Gibson and Louis Gibson.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 22, at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel in Pawhuska with Reverends Bob Chandler and Reverend Ron Eldridge officiating.   Interment will be in the Pawhuska City Cemetery with Graveside Military Rites accorded by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

GEORGE A. "JACK" MALASKE

OCNS - April 16, 2003 - George A. "Jack" Malaske, 74, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2003 at his home in Pawhuska, Oklahoma.

Jack was born January 23, 1929 in Pawhuska, the son of George and Florence E. (Gibson) Malaske.   August 8, 1980 in Miami, Oklahoma, Jack and Edwina Wilson were married and continued to make their home in Pawhuska.   A lifelong Pawhuska resident, Jack was a master carpenter.

Survivors include:   His wife, Edwina of the home; his children, Clara Jo Kyler and husband, Don, Jimmie Ann Young and husband, Minerd, Jerry Wayne Malaske, Jackie Holland and husband, Robert, all of Pawhuska, and Kathy Sue Talkington and husband, Mark, of Tulsa; a step-daughter, Teresa Wilson of Tulsa; his sisters, Clara Smith and husband, L.C. of Pawhuska and Mary Friend and husband, Fred of Houston, Texas; his brothers, Jerry Malaske and wife, Peggy, Bill Malaske and wife, Cecelia, and Jim Malaske and wife, Sue, all of Pawhuska; eleven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.

Services were held April 15, in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel, Pawhuska with interment in the Pawhuska City Cemetery.

REGINA KAY (HENDREN) KENT

OCNS - April 16, 2003 - Regina Kay (Hendren) Kent, 47, longtime resident of Pawhuska, Oklahoma was born October 22, 1955 in Watertown, South Dakota to Donna (Dix) and Eugene Hendren, and left this world Thursday, April 10, 2003 to join her Mother and Pa.

For over thirty years, Regina worked for the Pawhuska School System and for the past five and one-half years, for Youth Services of Osage County.

Regina could always be seen doing a number of different things at the School, but her most loved was supporting the different sporting events by collecting money at the gates and transporting the cheerleaders to out of town games.   She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

Regina leaves behind her children, Theresa Kelly, Kevin Hendren, Stephen Joe Hendren and Thomas Hendren, her nephew she raised as her own; her grandchildren, Amanda and Tyler Weathers, Kevin and Hope Hendren and Jessica and Jared Hendren; her brothers and sisters, Craig Hendren, Marty Hendren and Bruce Hendren of Pawhuska, Michael Hendren of El Reno, Oklahoma, Kathleen Baker, Monica Wadsworth, Deborah Simpson and Stephanie Millard, all of Pawhuska; and a host of nieces nephews and other family and friends.

Regina was preceded in death by her mother, Donna Hendren Kenworthy; her step-father, Stephen Kenworthy; her father, Eugene Lewis Hendren and a nephew, David Ray Dickey.

Funeral services were held April 14, in the Oren Terrill Field House, Pawhuska High School with interment in the Pawhuska City Cemetery.

MARY ANNIE DUCOTEY

OCNS - April 9, 2003 - Mary Annie Ducotey, 85, longtime resident of Fairfax, Oklahoma, died Monday, April 7, 2003 at Via Christi Oklahoma Regional Medical Center, Ponca City, Oklahoma.

A Rosary was said Tuesday evening at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fairfax with The Reverend Bruce Brosnahan, pastor, officiating.   Graveside service was held April 9, at Fairfax Cemetery with Father Brosnahan officiating.

Mary Annie was born November 3, 1917, in Cane Hill, Arkansas, the daughter of Howard and Alice Eadmeston Pyeatte.   She moved to Fairfax during her teenage years and graduated from Fairfax High School.   During her younger years, she worked at the Tall Chief Theatre in Fairfax.

June 10, 1939, Mary and Paul Irvin Ducotey were married at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fairfax where they made their home and operated a dairy farm.   She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Altar Society, an avid Oklahoma University fan and loved watching football.   She also loved watching her boys, Howard and Paul, Jr., play football when they were young.   Mary Annie also enjoyed playing Bridge and Pitch.

Survivors include:   Her son, Howard Ducotey and his wife, Kristel, of Fairfax; one sister, Grace Porter and her husband, Tom, of Fullerton, California; three grandchildren, Howard Ducotey, Jr. and his wife, Nikolle, and great grandson Mark Ducotey of Mansfield, Texas; great grandchildren, Mark Ducotey and Shannon Paul Ducotey of Tonkawa, Oklahoma and Megan Ann Ducotey of Fairfax; a daughter-in-law, Linda Ducotey of Corpus Christi, Texas; one niece, Beverly Peck and her husband, Burt, of Anaheim, California; and special friends to include the Miller family, Ken, Karen, Austin, Jessica and Sara.

Mrs. Ducotey was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Irvin Ducotey on March 8, 1999, one son, Paul Jr. and a brother, Howard.

Honorary casket bearers were Austin Miller, ken Miller, Bo Renfro, Jim Rich, Dave Ware and Steve Martin.

ANNA MURIEL YOUNT CRAUN

OCNS - April 7, 2003 - Anna Muriel Yount Craun, 92, died peacefully in her sleep on April 6, 2003 in her home at Nelagoney, Oklahoma, where she had lived for most of her life.

Born December 29, 1910 near Wooster Mound, Osage County, Oklahoma she moved north of Nelagoney at an early age.   Reared on a farm and knowing hard work and hard times, she attended Nelagoney Public Schools, quitting in her junior year to help on the family dairy farm.

December 23, 1930 she and Harold R. Craun were married, making their home in Nelagoney where their three sons, Bob, Harold Jr. and Jimmie were raised.

In her later years, Mrs. Craun worked as a senior companion and as a receptionist for the Osage County health Department until reluctantly retiring at the age of eighty-five-years.   She was a charter member of the Nelagoney Baptist Church.

Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, in 1967, her son Robert Earl in 2002, her parents, Ed and Lue Davis Yount; three sisters, Dona Hanna, Frances Gibson and Betty Mathis; and two brothers, Floyd and Otto Yount.

Survivors include:   Two sons, Harold and wife, Melinda, of Sapulpa, Oklahoma and Jim and wife, Virginia Lee of Nelagoney; daughter-in-law, Virginia Craun of Pawhuska, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Alan and Gerry Craun of Pawhuska, Lee Anna and Todd Ward of Tulsa and Lauren Craun and Jamie Craun both of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; seven great-grandchildren, Matthew Craun, Hannah Huneryager, Courtney Craun, Nolan Craun, Olivia Craun, Jameson Thorne and Jentry Thorne; one sister and her husband, Letha and Sterling Brown of Hominy, Oklahoma.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 8, in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel in Pawhuska with burial to follow in the Pawhuska City Cemetery.

HOMER F. MILLS

OCNS - April 1, 2003 - Homer F. Mills was born April 13, 1917 in Red Rock, Oklahoma to John Robert Mills and Lula Thomas Mills and passed away March 29, 2003 in Muskogee, Oklahoma.   He was eighty-five years old.

Homer graduated from Pawhuska, Oklahoma High School in May, 1938 and joined the Coast Guard, serving aboard the USCGC Nourmahal as Motor Machinist's Mate Second Class.   He married Doris Mae Bond on November 16, 1951 in Grand Prairie, Texas.   He was a master carpenter and longtime resident of Muskogee.

Homer is survived by two sisters, Jeraldine Mills Blank of Tulsa and Joyce Mills of Lakeland, Florida; four nieces, Jerry Jo Blunk Hensy of Pawhuska, Cheryl Hyde Bingham of Modesto, California, Pamela Hyde Phillips of Port St. John, Florida and Judith Blunk Harned of Tulsa.   He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris, and two sisters, Ida Garvene Mills Hyde and Joy Elene Mills.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at A.J. Powell Memorial Cemetery, Hominy, Oklahoma with Father Leonard H. Higgins officiating.

Service arrangements are under the direction of Powell Funeral Home, Hominy.

HAROLD ERNEST WAFFLE

OCNS - April 5, 2003 - Harold Ernest Waffle, 85, went to Heaven March 29, 2003.   Harold was born, September 27, 1917 to Harley Ernest and Minnie Jane (Murdock) Waffle in Hominy, Oklahoma.

Harold attended Hominy High School then joined the United States Army.   He went on to work for Frisco and Katy Railroad and later worked as a plumber's helper for several years before starting to work in the oilfields.   He was still working some when he was seventy years old.

Harold enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren and also enjoyed driving around in his suburban and going to the lake.

Harold is survived by his best friend, Irene Waffle, of Hominy and their three children:   Daughters, Carol and son-in-law, Rick Hiltzman, Marilyn and son-in-law, Harvey Vandever, and son, Ricky Waffle; seven grandchildren, Tony Hiltzman, Richard Hiltzman, Jr., Gary James, Kristen James Stiek, Brant Vandever, Curtis Vandever, Ryan Waffle and sixteen great grandchildren, plus many friends.

Memorial services were held Tuesday, April 1, 2003 at Powell Funeral Home, Hominy.   Brad Butler spoke for the family and read the eulogy.   Musical selections were "Amazing Grace", "Peace in the Valley" and "In the Garden".

Service arrangements were under the direction of Powell Funeral Home.

LINDA KAYE COLEMAN

OCNS - April 1, 2003 - Just past noon on Wednesday, March 26, 2003, the Angel of Peace touched Linda Kay Coleman, 37, and granted eternal rest with the Master in Heaven.

Born in Muskogee, Oklahoma on December 13, 1965, Linda was the daughter of Lucious Cotton and Ella Mae (Bell) Coleman.   She grew up in Muskogee where she graduated from Muskogee High School with the Class of 1984.   Linda furthered her education at Northeastern State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics.   After college, Linda returned to Muskogee where she made her home.

Linda began her career for Monarch, Inc., where she was a Psychology Technician.   Miss Coleman's relationship with the Lord began at New Faith Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and was active in the Choir.   She enjoyed spending her spare time with her family and friends, listening to music and watching sports.   She also enjoyed a good game of dominoes.   There was always a huge place in her heart for children.   She was an inspiration to many and her beautiful smile will be missed by a multitude of family and friends.

Survivors include her loving family members; her mother, Ella Mae Coleman and her father, Lucious Cotton, both of Muskogee; her grandmother, Jewel Cotton of Wagoner, Oklahoma; a sister, Janet Coleman of Muskogee; four brothers, Leroy, Stacy and wife, Sabrina, Michael and Gary Coleman all of Muskogee; a half-brother, Darrell Brown of Muskogee; special friends, Shawn and Nicholas Chambers and a caravan of other relatives and many friends.

AMY (ARNOLD) KINGSBURY

OCNS - March 31, 2003 - Mrs. Amy (Arnold) Kingsbury, 101, widow of Mr. W.R. Kingsbury and longtime resident of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, where she passed away Wednesday evening, March 26, 2003.

A native of Arkansas, Amy Arnold was born March 11, 1902 in Hartman, Johnson County, the daughter of Augustus G. "Gus" and Dora Belle (Atkins) Arnold.   The Arnold family moved to Oklahoma when Amy was six years of age.   She was reared and received her education in Vian, Oklahoma community schools and was graduated with the Vian High School Senior Class of 1920.   Following her graduation from high school, Amy taught elementary school and during the summer months, attended college at the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State University), Northwestern University at Evanston, Illinois and the University of California at Berkley.   In 1923, she moved to Bartlesville where she was employed in the Comptroller's Department of Phillips Petroleum Company from 1926 until June, 1938.

Amy and W.R. Kingsbury were married September 15, 1934 in Tulsa, Oklahoma and made their home in Bartlesville.   Mr. Kingsbury was also associated with Phillips Petroleum Company and retired in 1967.   He preceded her in death November 11, 1987 in Bartlesville and Amy continued to live in retirement in Bartlesville.

Mrs. Kingsbury was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the Unity Chapter #402, Order of Eastern Star.   She was a homemaker, duplicate bridge player and an avid sports fan.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert A. "Bob" and Judy Kingsbury, and a sister, Miss Jerry Arnold, all of Bartlesville; three granddaughters, Kathy Townley, Tulsa, Kim Kingsbury, Bristol Rhode Island and Kelly Cederstrom of Folsom, California; three great grandson, Tanner Wilmeth, Robby and Eric Cederstrom; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Margaret Arnold of Wichita, Kansas and Mrs. Carolyn Arnold of Aurora, Colorado.   In addition to her husband, Amy was preceded in death by three brothers, Leo R. Arnold, Ernest S. Arnold and Morris D. Arnold and two sisters, Mrs. Cecil Brown and Mrs. Iva Allen.

Private family services were held in the Memorial Park Cemetery where committal prayers, interment and final rites were directed by The Arnold Moore Funeral Service, Bartlesville.

BESSIE ZIMMERMAN-CROFT

OCNS - March 31, 2003 - Bessie Zimmerman-Croft, born August 1, 1911 in Casey, Illinois, to Milton and Jessie Egbert, passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at the age of ninety-one.   She was preceded in death by her loving first husband, L.W. (Smiley) Zimmerman, father of their seven children, and subsequent husbands, Andy Quisenberry and Bill Croft.

Mrs. Zimmerman-Croft is survived by her sister, Edith Grisham of Tulsa; children, Richard Zimmerman and wife, Rita, of Tulsa, Betty Hulsey, Tulsa, Priscilla Taber and husband, Bob, Oklahoma City, Lynn Zimmerman and wife, Ruby, Houston, Texas, Charlyena (Bunny) Starks and husband, Bill, Peoria, Illinois, Rick Zimmerman of Chouteau, Oklahoma, Jo Ann Kruse and husband, John, of Mission Viejo, California and three generations of grandchildren.

For over forty years, Bessie was a resident of Hominy, Oklahoma where she was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and Chamber of Commerce.   She also served as a member of the Oklahoma Silver Haired Legislature.

Bessie left her family a legacy of living each day with honesty, trust and a sense of humor.   All who knew her will miss her.

BETTY JO (MABRY) HOUSE

OCNS - March 25, 2003 - Mrs. Betty Jo (Mabry) House, 74, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma died at 12:55 a.m., Sunday March 23, 2003 at the Silver Lake Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 26, at the Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Tim Kutz of the Victory Church officiating.   Funeral services and interment will be under the direction of the Stumpff Funeral Home, Bartlesville.

Friends who wish, may call for visitation at the Stumpff Funeral Home until 9:00 p.m., Tuesday.

Mrs. House was born May 14, 1928 at Briartown, Oklahoma to John E. and Lola (Reynolds) Mabry.   She grew up in Pryor, Oklahoma and came to Bartlesville in 1947 where she graduated from high school.   She was employed with Phillips Petroleum Company in 1949 and remained with them until her retirement as an Administrative Assistant in 1985 after thirty-five years of service.   Betty was married to Jimmy Lee House in July of 1976 at Miami, Oklahoma and they made their home in Bartlesville since that time.   She was a member of the Indian Women's Club, the Jane Phillips Society and the alumni association of the Whitaker State Orphanage.

Survivors include:   Her husband, Jimmie House of the home, two daughters, Nancy Vaughn and her husband, Wayne, of Niotaze, Kansas and Janice harness and her husband, Jay of Bartlesville; one step daughter, Brenda Lea Watts and her husband, Wayne, of Bartlesville; one step son, Tim House and his wife, Kim, of Tulsa; two brothers, Otis O. Mabry of Lovington, New Mexico and Thomas C. Mabry of Bartlesville; two sisters, Ellen Evenson of Odessa, Texas and Colleen Kosowsky of Asheville, North Carolina and eleven grandchildren, David Wayne Beeman, Michele Larre Beeman, Whitney Renee Mauldin, Lindsey Michelle House, Andrew Timothy House, Emily Joy House, Katherine Lea Watts, Kendra Nicole Watts, Kara Elizabeth Watts, Casey Wayne Vaughn and Christopher Kyle Vaughn.

BLANCHE JAMISON

OCNS - March 24, 2003 - Blanche Jamison, 80, longtime resident of Pawhuska, Oklahoma passed away March 20, 2003 in Arkansas City, Kansas.

Blanche was born March 7, 1923 in Laura, Illinois the daughter of James F. and Reva J. (Gawwthorpe) Code.   On April 18, 1946 in Cushing, Oklahoma Blanche married Earl Jamison, who preceded her in death.   Blanche worked as a convenience store manager adn was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pawhuska.

Survivors include:   One daughter and son-in-law Kaye and Tom Wood of Shidler, Oklahoma; two sisters, Melva Eastwood of Denver, Colorado and Mamie Silvers of Agra, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Terry and Laura Lane of Mulvane, Kansas and Pamla M. Lane of Wichita, Kansas; one great grandchild, Todd Lane of Mulvane, Kansas; other relatives and many friends.   In addition to her husband, Blanche was preceded in death by one brother.

Graveside services were held Saturday, March 22, 2003 in the Jamison Cemetery in Meeker, Oklahoma under the direction of the Parks Brothers Funeral Service of Chandler, Oklahoma.

HERSHEL RADFORD

OCNS - March 20, 2003 - Longtime resident of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, Hershel Radford, 68, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2003 in the Pawhuska City Hospital.

Hershel was born October 2, 1934 in Fairfax, Oklahoma, the son of Robert James and Nellie Ada (Wilson) Radford.   A former jockey, Hershel had worked for the City of Pawhuska for over twenty years, retiring on December 20, 1996.

Survivors include:   His daughters, Hazel Radford of Claremore, Oklahoma and Rose Edna Twyman and husband, Dennis, of Columbia, Missouri; his son, Hershel Radford, Jr., of Claremore; his brothers, Calvin Stone of Newkirk, Oklahoma and Raymond Radford, Jack Radford, Earl Radford and Delmar Radford, all of Pawhuska; two sisters, Polly Hull of Hominy, Oklahoma and Ethel Linker of Wichita, Kansas and a host of other family and friends.   He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Lester, Tom and Leroy Radford.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 24, in the Pawhuska City Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home, Pawhuska.

JAMES E. (JIM) OVERSTREET

OCNS - March 20, 2003 - James E. (Jim) Overstreet, 77, of Prue, Oklahoma, went home to be with the Lord on March 19, 2003.

Born September 12, 1925 in Maramac, Oklahoma, Jim was the only child of Cecil James and Myrtle Gay Overstreet.   He received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior when he was nine years old.   November 4, 1960, he married Ruby Gray McCauley at Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

James graduated from Oxford (Kansas) High School and, at the age of seventeen, enlisted in the United States Navy, serving in the South Pacific Campaign aboard the USS Cowpens during World War II and was a Navy Seal.   He had fourteen battle stars and many honors bestowed upon him.   He served his country well.

After the war, James played semi-pro baseball, farmed out to the Brooklyn Dodgers Triple A Ball in Ponca City, Oklahoma.   He was employed as a salesman for most of his life, was Campus Life Supervisor at the L.E. Rader Diagnostic and Evaluation Center (Sand Springs, Oklahoma) and was President and Co-Founder with his wife, Ruby, of Overstreet Development Corporation.

James is survived by his wife, Ruby, of the home and leaves a host of friends to mourn his passing.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 24, in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel, Pawhuska with interment in the Ethel Reese Cemetery East, Barnsdall, Oklahoma.

EVA MAE (COSHEHE) YATES

OCNS - April 1, 2003 - Eva Mae (Coshehe) Yates, 75, lifelong resident of Pawhuska, Oklahoma passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2003 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Eva was born April 18, 1927 in Pawhuska, the daughter of John Henry and Josephine Mary (Tomey) Coshehe, Sr.   She was retired from the Osage Agency where she had worked for many years as a realty officer.   Ms Yates was a member of the Klash-Kah-She Club and the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Survivors include:   Her children, Deborah Ann Yates, Paul E. Yates, Jr., Marian Hope Waller, James Andrew Yates and Barbara Jo Dale; two sisters, Henrietta Mashunkashey and Angeline Revard; her grandchildren, John HorseChief, Geneva HorseChief, Rebekah HorseChief, Mary HorseChief, Alicia Yates, Katie Jo Yates, Hope Waller, Hannah Waller, Amanda Dale and Chelsea Dale and a host of other family and friends.

Rosary was recited March 20, 2003 at Wakon Iron Community Center in Pawhuska and traditional services were held at 8:00 a.m., March 21, at the Center with Edward RedEagle, Jr. officiating.   Mass was held at 10:00 a.m., March 21, in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Pawhuska with Father Bruce Brosnahan officiating, assisted by Father Leonard Higgins.   Interment was in the Nelagoney (Oklahoma) Cemetery.

WILMA EVELYN "BILLIE" NORWOOD

OCNS - March 18, 2003 - Former resident of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, Wilma "Billie" Norwood, 86, passed away Monday, March 17, 2003, in the Saint Francis Hospital, Tulsa.

Born April 9, 1916 in Lamar, Missouri, she was the daughter of Leonard and Evelyn (Lang) Douglas.   June 6, 1943, Evelyn Married George William Norwood in Oakland, California.   He preceded her in death August 10, 1994.   Mrs. Norwood was a homemaker and had moved to Tulsa in 2001 to be near her children.   She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pawhuska.

Survivors include:   David A. Norwood and wife, Sue, of Garland, Texas, Douglas W. Norwood and wife, Jeanie, of Springdale, Arkansas and James I. Norwood and wife, Vicki, of Tulsa; eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 20, in the First United Methodist Church of Pawhuska with Reverend James Edmison officiating.

OCNS - March 18, 2003 - Winnie Lavon Cressy, 72, known to her family and friends as "Bonnie", passed away Sunday, March 16, 2003 at her home in Pawhuska, Oklahoma.

Bonnie was born July 10, 1930 in Wynona, Oklahoma, the daughter of Dave Harrison and Lois Jane (Baker) Ammons.   On March 10, 1979, she married Mike Cressy in Pawhuska, where they made their home.

Survivors in addition to her husband, Mike, are her daughters, Lavon Newell and husband, John, of Tulsa and Debra Williams and husband, Raymond, of Pawhuska; her sons, Gary Chambers and wife, Dede of Bartlesville, Oklahoma and Charley Chambers and wife, Kay, of Pawhuska; her grandchildren, Natalie and Hector Ferrer, Gary Jon, David and Kathryn Chambers; Mikel Watkins and Kate, Will and Lee Chambers; two great grandchildren, Danny and Melissa Ferrer; her brothers, Lawrence Ammons and Ronnie Stanton and her sisters, Lenora White, Lois B. Gore and Wanda Mitts.

Bonnie was preceded in death by hr parents, Dave and Lois Ammons, three brothers, Cassius, David and Thomas Ammons, a sister, Mary Ellen Brown, an infant son, Will and an infant daughter, Elizabeth.

CLARA IRENE (FARSON) JETER

OCNS - March 20, 2003 - Mrs. Clara Irene (Farson) Jeter, 83, widow of the late Killis Walton Jeter, Jr., died at 6:25 p.m., Sunday, March 16, in the Geriatrics Section of the Jane Phillips Memorial Medical Center, Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 20, in the Memory Chapel of The Arnold Moore Funeral Residence with The Reverend Ralph O. Dershem officiating.   The Bartlesville Chapter #142 Order of the Eastern Star will accord her final rites.   The funeral cortege will drive overland to the Ethel Reese Cemetery, Barnsdall, Oklahoma where committal prayers and interment will be directed by The Arnold Moore Funeral Service.

A native of East Saint Louis, Illinois, Clara Irene Farson was born July 10, 1919, the daughter of the late Harry H. Farson and Una Jane (Conner) Farson.   During her youth, she moved with her family members to Missouri where they made their home until moving to Barnsdall where she continued her education, graduating with the Barnsdall High School Senior Class of 1937.   She and Killis Walton Jeter, Jr., were married August 7, 1937 in Barnsdall where they made their first home.   The Jeter family moved to Pampa, Texas, where they lived until moving to Bartlesville in 1944.  Mr. and Mrs. Jeter also had residences in Shidler, Oklahoma, Lyons, Kansas and in 1987 returned to Bartlesville to live in retirement.   Mr. Jeter preceded her in death in Bartlesville on October 15, 2000 and since that time, Mrs. Jeter has continued living in retirement in Bartlesville.

Mrs. Jeter was a member of the Lyons, Kansas First Baptist Church, Bartlesville Chapter #142 Order of the Eastern Star, the Order of the Amaranth Bartlesville Court #26 as well as the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem Bethel Shrine #3.

Survivors include;   Three daughters, Ms Judy P. Skinner and Mrs. John (Sharon I.) Wehmeyer, both of Bartlesville and Mrs. Sal (Juana Maye) Khan, McPherson, Kansas; one son, Killis Walton Jeter III and his wife, Eugenia of Fayetteville, North Carolina; thirteen grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one brother, Gene Farson of Springfield, Missouri and one sister, Mrs. Hazel Freeman of Mansfield, Missouri.   In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, Joe and Ralph Farson.

GEORGE DAVID ROGERS

OCNS - March 18, 2003 - George David Rogers, 42, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2003 at his residence in Pawhuska, Oklahoma.

David was born June 12, 1960 in Pawhuska and attended Pawhuska schools, graduating with the Pawhuska High School Class of 1978.   He was a lab technician.

Survivors are:   his wife, Gidget Rogers; his father, Bob Bryant of Pawhuska; a son, Jason Lee Rogers of the home in Pawhuska; two sisters, Vickie Cox and husband, Gary, of Hominy, Oklahoma and Debbie Conley of Pawhuska; a brother, James Bryant and wife, Donna, of Pawhuska; step-children, Kyle Ames, Wesley Ames, Makayla Ames and Tyler Ames all of Lenapah, Oklahoma; and a host of other family and friends.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, March 18, in the Pawhuska City Cemetery with Brother Chuck Glendenning officiating.

GEORGE THOMAS WEBB

OCNS - March 5, 2003 - George Thomas Webb, 77, joined his Savior, Jesus Christ, on March 4, 2003 after a courageous battle with cancer.   He was born December 19, 1925, in Dexter, Kansas to George Drake and Birdie Pearl (Moberly) Webb.   When George was three years old, the family moved to Lost Springs, Kansas where he attended school until the age of ten, when the family moved to an oil lease at Foraker, Oklahoma where George started sixth grade.   He attended school at Foraker until his graduation in May, 1943.

George met the love of his life, Norma Jean Sullivan and they were married in Pawhuska, Oklahoma on December 31, 1950.   Four children were born to this union.

Following graduation, George joined the Naval Air Corps and served overseas twice in the South Pacific.   Having served aboard the USS Bunker Hill when it was hit in May 1945, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Victory Medal, Air Medal, Letter of Commendation, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon, American Campaign Ribbon and the Purple Heart.   He was honorably discharged June 3, 1946.

Shortly thereafter, George went to work for Phillips Petroleum Company and later worked for the Standard Oil and Gas Company.   While working for Standard Oil and Gas he attended college at the University of Southern Alabama then returned to Oklahoma and resumed employment with Phillips Petroleum Company, remaining with them until his retirement August 1, 1985 in Lindsay, Oklahoma.

During his career with Phillips, George worked the South Burbank (Oklahoma) Field and, in 1964, transferred to Elk City, Oklahoma, then to Tulsa until February, 1966, when he moved back to the South Burbank field where he and his family lived until he was transferred to Plainville, Kansas where he worked for seven years and was again transferred to El Dorado, Arkansas where he was promoted to Operations Superintendent and was later transferred to Lindsay, Oklahoma where he remained as Operations Superintendent until retiring August 1, 1985.   The family remained in Lindsay until June, 1994, when they moved to Pawhuska.

George was a member of the Second Baptist church of El Dorado, a member of the Lyons Club in Pawhuska and a past member of the Lyons Club in Plainville, Kansas where he was President as well as Zone Chairman.   He was also past president of the American Cancer Society of Northwest Kansas for five years.   George served as Operators Representative for Surface BOP Stacks at the Oil Blowout Prevention School at the University of Oklahoma in February, 1985.   He was a former member and Board of Director for the American Petroleum Institute in Cushing, Oklahoma.

George will always be missed and remembered by his friends and family.   He took pride in having his family get-togethers and cherished the time with his friends and family.   He loved fishing, vacationing and watching the deer roaming the woods at his home.   He always cherished the time spent trout fishing in Colorado with his family and friends.

If George ever knew anyone that was in need, he was there to offer help.   He always thought of others before himself and would give his time and listening ear to anyone.   He will be remembered by those who knew him for his loving concern and caring spirit for others.   He never forgot a birthday or special date and could even remember the weather on that particular day.

George was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Jean Webb; one brother, Randolph Webb; father, George Drake Webb and mother, Birdie Pearl (Moberly) Webb.

Survivors are:   A brother, Dale M. Webb of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; his children, Teresa Jean Keller and her husband, William (Bill) of Woodward, Oklahoma, George Thomas Webb, Jr., and his wife, Sue, of Kimberling City, Missouri; Randy Michael Webb of the home and Annette Sue Davis of Marlow, Oklahoma.   Surviving grandchildren include LaVeta Johnson of El Dorado, Kansas, B.J. Keller of Pensacola, Florida, Michael Wasemiller of Medford, Oregon, Troy Keller of Amarillo, Texas, Gregg Wasemiller of Norman, Oklahoma, Kimberly Keller of Woodward, Oklahoma, Scott Webb of Hubbard, Texas, Crystal Davis of Rush Springs, Oklahoma and Rocky Davis of Marlow, Oklahoma.   George is also survived by a host of loving great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 7, 2003 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel, Pawhuska, Oklahoma.   Military Burial Service will be presented at the Pawhuska City Cemetery by the American Legion and the Veteran's of Foreign Wars under the direction of The Johnson Funeral Home.

MORGAN FREEMAN

OCNS - March 10, 2003 - Funeral services for Morgan Freeman, 88, were held March 1, at the Ascension Church in Skiatook, Oklahoma with his son, Jerald Freeman officiating.   Interment was in the Osage Gardens Cemetery, Skiatook under the direction of Sien-Shelton Funeral Home.

Morgan was born May 14, 1914 in Morrilton, Arkansas to Jessie James and Adona (Morgan) Freeman.   At the age of fifteen, he borrowed $2.00 from his sister and came to Oklahoma on a train loaded with cattle.   Upon arrival he was hired out as a cowhand to Friend-LaForce Cattle Company near Ramona.   Part of his job was looking after fifteen hundred Brahman cattle.

June 14, 1936 Morgan married Dorothy Mae Clingan and for the next nine years they lived the "rancher's life".   In 1945 Morgan went to work for his brother in Arkansas and in 1950 returned to Ramona, Oklahoma where he started Freeman's Feed which he later moved to Skiatook.   Morgan was passionate about his love of God, his family and horses.   He also loved people, poetry, music and movies.

Survivors include:   His four children, Jerald Freeman and Larry Freeman of Skiatook, Paul Freeman of Sperry, Oklahoma and Janie Martin of Pinson, Alabama; nine grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.

Music for the services was performed by Ascension Praise Team, Pam Duncan, Charles and Margaret Carver.   Casket escorts were Monte Freeman, Travis Freeman, John Magnass, Scott Turek, Mike Freeman Oler and John Israel.   Honorary casket escorts were Gene McGill, Bill Blakemore, Bert Benear, Lavern Stroud, Bob Stone and Randy James.

Services were under the direction of Sien-Shelton Funeral Home, Skiatook.

LARRY DON MALASKE

OCNS - March 4, 2003 - Larry Don "Sky" Malaske, Sr., 48, resident of Ponca City, Oklahoma, died Saturday, February 22, 2003.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 5, in the Pawhuska (Oklahoma) Cemetery with the Reverend Gene Hutchinson officiating.   Arrangements are under the direction of the Trout Funeral Home, Ponca City.

Larry was born September 9, 1954 in Shidler, Oklahoma the son of John and Liliath (Cato) Malaske.   He graduated from Pawhuska High School.

October 15, 1996, Larry married Deanna Ralston in Cedar Vale, Kansas and they made their home in Ponca City.   He enjoyed fishing, hunting, singing and playing his guitar.

Survivors include four children, Larry Don Malaske, Jr., of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, John Malaske, Jessica Malaske and Kayla Malaske, all of Ponca City; his parents, John and Liliath Malaske of Pawhuska and four granddaughters.

Casket bearers will be William Garroutte, Bobby Borren, Claude "Woody" Lewis, Eugene Keeler, Chris Keeler and Daniel Hale.   The Reverend Jack Adams will serve as an honorary casket bearer.

BILLY WAYNE DYER

OCNS - March 4, 2003 - Billy Wayne Dyer, 67, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2003 at his home in Pawhuska, Oklahoma.

Born December 17, 1935 in Whitharral, Texas to Minnie Jo and Charlie Dyer, Bill spent his childhood years in Whitharral where he attended Whitharral public schools.   He served as an aircraft mechanic in the United States Navy during World War II.

On April 25, 1973 Bill married Jean Burrows and they chose to make Pawhuska their home.   Bill was a skilled welder which he chose as his lifetime occupation.   He always had a smile and a kind word for everyone.

Survivors include:   His wife, Jean of the home in Pawhuska; two sons, B.J. Dyer and Jack Dyer of Pawhuska; his mother, Minnie Jo Dyer; a sister, Rita Gresham of Colorado Springs, Colorado; one niece and one nephew, Starla Gresham and Scott Gresham, both of Colorado, Springs; eight grandchildren; a step-son, Leroy Burrows and his wife, Barbara, and many friends and acquaintances.   Bill was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Sue Holt.

Memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 6, at the Pawhuska Bible Church with Reverend Mark Buchanan officiating.

THOMAS E. WOODS

OCNS - March 4, 2003 - Pawhuska, Oklahoma native, Thomas E. Woods, 50, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 27, 2003.

Tommy was born September 22, 1952, in Pawhuska, the son of John and Frankie Mae (Williams) Woods and attended Pawhuska schools.   December 3, 1992, he married Carolyn Marie Boston in Lexington, Oklahoma.   At the time of his death, Tommy was a resident of Pawnee, Illinois (sic).   He had always loved his hometown of Pawhuska and will be missed by many.   He is finally with The Father.   Tommy was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn of Pawnee, Illinois (sic); a daughter, Laci Woods of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; three sisters, Debbie Woods, Johnnie Mae Andrews and Jacquelyn Gray, all of Pawhuska; and a brother, Richard W. Woods of Caney, Kansas; four step-children; thirteen step-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other family and friends.   In addition to his parents, Tommy was preceded in death by a brother, John Woods, Jr., and two sisters, Mary Ruth Purcell and Carolyn Abel.

Graveside services were held Monday, March 3, in the Pawhuska City Cemetery with Father Leonard Higgins officiating.

RUTH BARHAM

OCNS - March 4, 2003 - Ruth Barham, 81, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2003 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.   Ruth was born November 10, 1921 at Myers Station, Oklahoma to William Henry and Mary Longley (formerly of Elgin, Kansas).

"On September 1, 1943, in Newkirk, Oklahoma, Ruth and C.O. "Bunt" Barham were married and made their home in Foraker, Oklahoma before moving to Grainola, Oklahoma, where they lived with three of their seven children, Sharon Clevenger, Clay Barham and Jim Barham.   They later moved to Sedan, Kansas where the remaining four children, Kathy Gonser, Mitzi Richardson, Becky Russell and Buddy Barham concluded Ruth's family.

Ruth was predeceased by her husband on March 17, 1972.   She was known for her great cooking, served to all of us at Paul's and Keeny's in Sedan and at the Duncan Hotel Restaurant, Pullman Cafe, Pawhuska Country Club and The Mercantile in Pawhuska.   She retired from her love of cooking in 1987 and resided in Pawhuska for a time before relocating to her home in Dewey, Oklahoma.   She enjoyed the company of the many friends she easily made throughout her life and accepted everyone without hesitation for their individual being.   She attributed her fulfilling life to her unfailing faith in her savior and her rich enjoyment of life with her family, friends and love of animals.   There are not enough words to say what Ruth will be remembered for the most.   She has touched so many lives and has been an anchor to many during rocky times.   she was a wonderful sister, mother and grandmother.   We have all been blessed by knowing and being a part of her life." In addition to her husband, Ruth was predeceased by two sisters, Dolly Panther and Fannie Weiser and three brothers, Tom Longley, Bill Longley and Gillian Longley.   In addition to her seven children, she is survived by two sisters, Mary Minney of Pawhuska and Nancy Griffith of fountain, Colorado and one brother, Frank Longley of Manhattan, Kansas; fifteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.

Services for Ruth are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 6, 2003 at Johnson Funeral Home in Pawhuska with Reverend David Swafford of the Assembly of God Church officiating.   Burial will be in the Pawhuska City Cemetery.

"Ruth's love for her family and friends will never be forgotten.   She is now God's gift to us and has now become her family's own personal special angel to watch over them.   Mom we love you so much, we will miss you even more."

RUTH ELLYN (RICHARDSON) COUFFER

OCNS - March 1, 2003 - Ruth Ellyn (Richardson) Couffer, 60, was born November 7, 1942, in Osage, Oklahoma, the daughter of Bobby Gene and Virginia LouEllen (Stephens) Richardson.   Her maternal grandparents were William A. (Bill) and Lola (Thomas) Stephens.

Ruth passed away February 26, 2003 in Hominy, Oklahoma.

Ruth was reared in the Hominy and Osage and graduated in 1961 from Hominy High School.   She then went to the Tulsa Technical College, graduating in 1962 with a diploma in business machines and accounting.   She then joined the United States Marine Corps where she was promoted to Woman Marine Private First Class in October, 1962.   While stationed in San Diego, California for two years, she met and married James Donald Murray on November 22, 1963.   They had two beautiful daughters, Barbara Lynn and Patti (Patricia Ann)

Ruth received an Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Marines, October 4, 1963, and in 1976, moved her family back to Hominy, Oklahoma where she started Couffer's Bookkeeping and Tax Service in 1978. She and Sylvia Rhodes had more than just a bookkeeping relationship, being life long friends and then some.   Ruth sold her business to Sylvia and when her daughters graduated from Hominy High School, Ruth moved to Tulsa and began working for Golden Oil Company.   January 29, 1990 she began working in the accounting office of the Tulsa Welding School and retired thirteen years later on January 29, 2003.

Ruth was reared as a Baptist but, during her life she visited any and all churches.   She was a member of the American Legion and a veteran of the Vietnam War.

Ruth was preceded in death by an infant brother in 1950, her mother in 1961, her father in 1979, her maternal grandfather in 1982 and her maternal grandmother in 1991.

Survivors include her daughter Barbara, and husband, Kevin Bryant and their three children, Jace, Corey and Jimmy; daughter Patti and husband, Coy Everett and their three children, Sheena and Stephen Spurgeon and Jami Everett; her sisters, Paula Pappan of Hominy, Virginia Ellis of Holdenville, Oklahoma and Mary Watkins of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; her brother, Bill Richardson of Hominy, Oklahoma; brothers-in-law; a sister-in-law; several nieces and nephews; great nieces and great nephews and several very good friends she loved and adored more than words can express.

Services were held Friday, February 28, 2003 in the Rose Hill Chapel of Peace with burial in the Memorial Park Cemetery at Yale and Admiral Place, Tulsa.

CLEAT HENRY HUNT

OCNS - February 28, 2003 - Funeral services for Cleat Henry Hunt, 65, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 1, 2003 at the Osage Gardens Cemetery, Skiatook, Oklahoma, with Reverend Dale Nielsen, officiating.

Cleat died at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 26, 2003 at the Saint John Medical Center in Tulsa.

Cleat was born December 8, 1937 in Bixby, Oklahoma, the son of George and Lola Hunt and was reared and received his education in Barnsdall, Oklahoma where he graduated from Barnsdall High School.   He joined the United States Navy, serving four years aboard the U.S. Randolph Air Craft Carrier.   In 1960, Cleat moved to Pawhuska, Oklahoma where he married Joyce Lott, with whom he had three children.   March 13, 1990, he married Yvonne L. "Rick" Chouteau in Bartlesville, Oklahoma and they made their home in Skiatook.

Cleat worked in the oilfields before beginning a career in Law Enforcement in 1963.   He served as a police officer in the Oklahoma communities of Hominy, Claremore, Cleveland, Pawhuska and Skiatook where he retired as Police Chief.   He hunted arrowheads for a hobby and was known for his arrowhead collection.   He enjoyed fishing and playing dominoes with many of his friends in Pawhuska and Skiatook.   He was known by his children as the cook of the house.

Survivors include his wife, Yvonne "Rick" of the home; his three children, Ronda (Hunt) Alexander and her husband, Michael and their two children, Amanda and Joshua of Pawhuska, Sandra (Hunt) Cornstubble and her two children, Andrew and Stephanie of Sedan, Kansas, and Shane Hunt of Pawhuska; two step-children, Effie Glendenning of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Missy Allen of Pryor, Oklahoma and a host of other relatives and friends.   He was preceded in death by his parents.

Casket escorts for the service will be Pat Dean, Gene Phillips, Steve Hailey, Gordon Brown, Jim Gullane and Mitchell Antle.   Honorary Casket escorts will be Don Dunham, Dean Taylor, Harvey Jones, Paul Phillips and Billy Wakefield.

Funeral services and interment will be under the direction of Sien-Shelton Funeral Home, Skiatook.

EASLEY CHRIS KOTHE

OCNS - February 26, 2003 - Easley Chris Kothe, 89, passed away quietly at 2:20 p.m., February 24, 2003 in The Gardner Residence in Sapulpa, Oklahoma.

Easley was born July 14, 1913 in Ponca City, Oklahoma and lived and worked in the Fairfax, Oklahoma area as a cowboy for several ranchers until 1958.   He was a truck driver for Lonas Jump and farmed his own acreage north of Fairfax.   He also worked for several years for Cameron Oil Company (southwest of Shidler, Oklahoma).   His final years of employment were in the area of Pawhuska, Oklahoma where he worked for Simon Lebo Oil Company and in road maintenance for Osage County.

Mr. Kothe was respected for his roping skills and participated in local rodeo events.   He retired to Pawhuska until the death of his wife of sixty-four years, Ruby Lee Roady Kothe in 2000 when he moved to Sapulpa to be near his son.   His last two years were in The Garden Residence in Sapulpa.

Survivors include his daughter, Charlotte Jo Ann Kothe Morris and her husband, Phillip, of Houston, Texas; one son, Ronald Lee Kothe and his wife, Sue, of Sapulpa and daughter-in-law, Linda Stagin, of Farmington, New Mexico.   In addition to his wife, Ruby, Easley was preceded in death by one son, Donald Ray Kothe of Farmington, New Mexico.

Easley was very proud of his eight grand children; fifteen great grand children and one great-great grandchild.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m., March 1, at the Fairfax Cemetery.

HAZEL LEE FINEGAN

OCNS - February 26, 2003 - Hazel lee Finegan, 77, lifelong resident of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, passed away following an extended illness, Saturday, February 22, 2003 at her residence.

Hazel Lee was born September 17, 1925 in Pawhuska, the daughter of D. Raymond and Marguerite (Thomas) Finegan.

A retired medical secretary, Hazel was a member of The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Osage Indian Tribe.   She was a graduate of Pawhuska High School.

Funeral mass was held Tuesday, February 25, in The Immaculate Conception Church with Father Leonard Higgins officiating.   Burial was in the Pawhuska City Cemetery.

LARRY D. CARMAN

OCNS - February 1, 2003 - Larry D. Carman, 51, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 31, 2003 at his residence in Pawhuska, Oklahoma.

Larry was born May 11, 1951 in Claremore, Oklahoma, the son of Wilford C. and Frances J. (Lozier) Carman and attended school in Pawhuska, where he was a member of the Pawhuska High School wrestling team.   On July 23, 2002, he married Joanne Patterson in Miami, Oklahoma.   An avid hunter and fisherman, Larry also enjoyed bull riding and participating on the rodeo circuit.

Surviving are:   His wife, Joanne Patterson Carman of the home; his children, Shanna Carman Vogeding and husband, Lorin of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Benita Patterson and Austin Patterson of the home, Erica Marie Carman and Larissa Traylor of Pawhuska; his mother, Frances J. Carman of Pawhuska; two grandchildren, Layton Vogeding and Courtland Vogeding of Bartlesville; numerous nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.   Larry was preceded in death by his father and two brothers, Lonnie Carman and Les Carman.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 3, in the Assembly of God Church, Pawhuska with Reverend Mike Franklin officiating.   Interment will be in the Pawhuska City Cemetery.

SHELDA "TILLIE" (HOLLOWAY) McGEE PYLE

OCNS - February 1, 2003 - Shelda "Tillie" (Holloway) McGee Pyle, 93, passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2003 in the Pawhuska (Oklahoma) Nursing Home.

Shelda Holloway was born April 19, 1909 in Centerville, Kansas the daughter of John Howard and Mana Lucretia (Smith) Holloway.   April 26, 1926, she married E.H. McGee in Centerville, Kansas.   He preceded her in death on June 11, 1977.   March 18, 1989, she married Charles "Buck" Pyle in Pawhuska.   He preceded her in death on Novemr 29, 1993.   Shelda was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, American Association of Retired Person and served as a volunteer for Senior Services and Meals on Wheels.   She was a loving mother, grandmother and wife.

Surviving are:   Three daughters, Joan Core and husband, Melvin, Betty Reber and husband, John, all of Pawhuska and Patsy Millburn of Tulsa; two step-sons, Bob Pyle and wife, Shirley, of Brownborough, Texas and Joe Pyle and wife, Michelle, of Borger, Texas; a brother, James Holloway and wife, Viola, of Overland Park, Kansas; her grandchildren, Alan Core, Leslie Core, Terry Millburn, DeDe Millburn, Soule' and husband, Steve, Jay Millburn and wife, MarkAnne, Greg Reber and wife, Bonnie, Kevin Reber and wife, Catherine, Kerry Reber Weger and husband, John; nineteen great grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.   In addition to her husbands, Mrs. Pyle was preceded in death by a daughter, Glynn "Gigi" Wimbish on November 9, 2000.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 1, in the First United Methodist Church of Pawhuska with pastor Julie Capranica officiating.   Interment will be in the Pawhuska City Cemetery.

ESMA "TOM" TRACY

OCNS - February 1, 2003 - Longtime resident of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, Tom Tracy, 81, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, January 29, 2003, following an extended illness.

Mr. Tracy was born May 22, 1921 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, the son of George Esma and Nova Bell (Harbor) Tracy.   On January 9, 1952, he married Fern Smith in Pawhuska, Oklahoma.   He served in the United States Army during world War II and was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Ex-POWs (Prisoners of War) and was a member of the I.O.O.F. (Odd Fellows Lodge).

Surviving are:   His wife, Fern Tracy of the home; four daughters, Flindy Tracy, Betty J. Woody, Charlotte Overley and Carolyn S. Sweeden; three brothers, T.J. Tracy, Larry Tracy and Bill Tracy; two sisters, Della Byrd and Juanita Tracy; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.   He was preceded in death by two sisters.

Graveside services were held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 1, 2003 in the Pawhuska City Cemetery with Reverend Mike Franklin of the Assembly of God Church officiating.   Military rites were accorded by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Dr. PRESTON D. LANDRUM

OCNS - January 29, 2003 - Dr. Preston D. Landrum, 74, lifelong resident of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, passed away Monday, January 27, 2003 in the Pawhuska Hospital.

Preston Davis Landrum was born November 22, 1928 in Pawhuska, the son of David Stanley and Martha Emaline (Davis) Landrum and graduated Pawhuska High School with the Class of 1947.   He received his pre-dental education from 1948-1951 at the University of Kansas City, Kansas City, Missouri, and his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from the University of Missouri at Kansas City, Kansas City Western Dental College.   He served his Oral Surgery Residency from 1954-1956, at Topeka State Hospital, Topeka, Kansas.   He held licenses in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri and Kansas.

Dr. Landrum opened his private dental practice in Pawhuska in 1956 and continued until his retirement in July of 1999.   He was a Life Member of the Chi Chapter, Xi Psi Phi National Dental Fraternity, American Dental Association, Oklahoma State Dental Association, and Northern District Dental Association.   He served as a Delegate to the Oklahoma Dental Association (1961-1968), Vice-president of the Northern District Dental Association (1966-1967), President of the Northern District Dental Association (1967-1968) and the Oklahoma Peer Review Committee (1967-1969).

Dr. Landrum served in the United States Navy Hospital Corps in San Diego, California from June 26, 1946 to April 26, 1948.

A tireless worker in and supporter of the Pawhuska community, Dr. Landrum served as District Director for the Cherokee Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America (1958-1964), member of the Pawhuska Golf and Country Club, where he served on the Board of Directors (1960-1982) and as President (1965 and 1980), Councilman at Large of the Pawhuska City Council (1990-1996), Mayor of Pawhuska (1992-1996), Pawhuska Community Foundation Board of Directors (1992-1995).   He was a lifelong active member of the Saint Thomas Episcopal Church in Pawhuska.

In recognition of his efforts, Dr. Landrum was awarded the Pawhuska Chamber of Commerce Community Leader of the Year Award in 1992, 1993 and 1994.   In 1994, he was also recognized with the Oklahoma Dental Association's Thomas Jefferson Citizens Award.

On March 7, 1954, Dr. Landrum married Carol Cross in Eureka, Kansas.   She survives him at home.

Other surviving family include:   His children:   Stan Landrum and fiancée, Katheryn, of Escondido, California, Cathey Huston and husband, Brent, of Grove, Oklahoma, Leslie Snively and husband, Jimbo, of Pawhuska and Karen Landrum of Pawhuska; his grandchildren, Matthew Gurley and Chelsea Gurley of Grove, Thad Ikenberry and Luke Ikenberry of Pawhuska, Samantha Schonholtz and Sunny Rae Schonholtz of Pawhuska; his sister, Margaret Landrum Hartman of Tulsa and a host of other family and many, many friends.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 30, in the Saint Thomas Episcopal Church, Pawhuska with interment to follow in the Pawhuska City Cemetery.

NEAL MELVIN WEAVER

OCNS - January 29, 2003 - Mr. Neal Melvin Weaver, 82, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, retired safety inspector, died at 8:16 a.m., Sunday, January 26, 2003 in the Emergency Room of the Jane Phillips Medical Center, Bartlesville.

Graveside services, including Military Rites, were held January 28, in the Foraker (Oklahoma) Cemetery, under the direction of Stumpff Funeral Home, Bartlesville.

Mr. Weaver was born May 30, 1920 at Grainola, Oklahoma to John Anderson and Edith Priscilla (Batdorf) Weaver.   He was reared and received his education in the Grainola area.   He entered the United States Army on January 27, 1942 and was honorably discharged October 30, 1945.   He was married to Betty Jane Manadue on January 1, 1949 at Douglas, Kansas and the couple made their home in Wichita, Kansas and Newkirk, Oklahoma before moving to the Bartlesville area in 1951.   Mr. Weaver was employed with the Bureau of Mines as a safety inspector until his retirement in 1982.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jane of the family home; two sons, Neal Melvin Weaver, Jr., of August, Kansas and David Anderson Weaver of Bartlesville; one daughter, Colleen Rose Moll of Bartlesville and three grandchildren.   He was preceded in death by four sisters, Lola, Sarah, Millie and Dollie and six brothers, Charles, Johnny, Alvin, Pete, Bill and George.

BERNICE PEARSON ROBERTS

OCNS - January 21, 2003 - Bernice Pearson Roberts, 96, passed away Saturday, January 18, 2003 in the Pawhuska (Oklahoma) Nursing Home.

Mrs. Roberts was born May 18, 1906 in Pawhuska, the daughter of October Tobias Pearson and Mary Katherine (Trumbly) Pearson.   May 19, 1930 she married Robert H. Roberts in Pawhuska and he preceded her in death on November 3, 1956.   She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Altar Society and the Klash-Kah-She Club.

Survivors include:   Her daughter, Marion Beckwith of Wichita, Kansas; a sister, Mildred Brown of Pawhuska, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Robert Joseph Beckwith, Timothy K. Beckwith and Julia Marie Beckwith and a host of other family and friends.

DELLA G. BURCHETT

OCNS - January 21, 2003 - Longtime resident of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, Della G. Burchett, 98, passed away Saturday, January 18, 2003 in the Pawhuska Nursing Home.

Della G. Benson was born December 24, 1904 in Lebanon, Missouri, the daughter of Charles Benson and Ida B. Cook.   She attended school in Missouri and on January 7, 1928, she married Paul Chester Burchett in Tulsa, Oklahoma.   She worked for several dentists in Tulsa and Pawhuska during the 1920's and 1930's.   The Burchetts moved to Pawhuska in 1942.   Paul preceded her in death July 15, 1997.   She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include:   Her daughter, Marilyn McClead of Albuquerque, New Mexico; her grandson, Jon McClead of Enid, Oklahoma; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, January 23, in the Pawhuska City Cemetery with Reverend Dean Rainwater of the First Baptist Church officiating.

CLARISSA A. TRASK

OCNS - REVISED -January 20, 2003 - Clarissa A. Trask, 84, passed away Thursday, January 16, 2003, in the St. John Hospital, Sapulpa, Oklahoma.

Clarissa was born September 15, 1917 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, the daughter of Everett and Cleo (Comstock) Beach.   A lifelong area resident, she graduated from Pawhuska High School with the Class of 1935.   She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include:   Three sons, Bill Howell and wife, Norma, of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; Ormand Howell of Owasso, Oklahoma, and Homer Fincannon and wife, Carol, of Duncanville, Texas; a daughter, Eva Noble and husband, Travis, of Miami, Texas; ten grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; one great great-grandchild and a host of other family and friends.   Mrs. Trask was preceded in death by a son, Bernard Howell, her parents, E.E. and Cleo Comstock Beach and two brothers, Ormand Beach and Bernard Beach.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 20, in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel in Pawhuska with Donald Stephens officiating.   Interment will be in the Pawhuska City Cemetery.

MARIE LEE

OCNS - January 17, 2003 - Marie Lee, 84, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2003 in the Pawhuska (Oklahoma) Nursing Home.   She was born May 5, 1918 in Collinsville, Oklahoma, the daughter of B.D. and Pearl (Gillespie) Stroud.   January 28, 1937 Marie married Alvin Lee in Pawnee, Oklahoma.   He preceded her in death July 12, 1994.   Marie was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include:   Three brothers, Paul Stroud of Crescent City, California, and Clifford Stroud and Jack Stroud, both of Pawhuska; a sister, Sharon Moore of Elkmont, Alabama; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 17, in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel, Pawhuska, with Reverend Benny Spencer officiating.   Interment will be in the Pawhuska City Cemetery.

LAVERNE RANDOLPH "SMOKEY" LOOKOUT

OCNS - January 5, 2003 - Laverne Randolph Lookout, 72, passed away Saturday, January 4, 2003 in the Jane Phillips Medical Center, Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

A member of the Osage Tribe of Indians, Mr. Lookout was born April 23, 1930 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, the son of Original Osage Allottee Henry Samuel Lookout and Dora (McCarthy) Lookout.   He was the grandson of former Osage Chief Fred and Julia Lookout.   He worked in the mail department at Phillips Petroleum in Bartlesville, retiring in 1976.

Survivors are:   His children, Laverne Randolph Lookout, Jr., Ira Ed Lookout and wife, Angie, Sophie Lookout, Elizabeth Lookout, Vivian Bighorse and husband, Pete, Debra Lookout and William Henry Lookout all of Pawhuska; brother and sisters, Edward Lookout and Anita Lookout West, both of Pawhuska and Mongrain Lookout and Yvonne Lookout, both of Hominy, Oklahoma; twenty-one grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.   In addition to his parents, Mr. lookout was preceded in death by a daughter, Henrietta Lookout young and a sister, Armeda Lookout Eaves.

Services were held Tuesday, January 7, in the Wakon Iron Community Center in the Indian Camp Village, Pawhuska with Harry Red Eagle, Jr. officiating.   Interment was in the Lookout Family Cemetery, east of Pawhuska.
